There has been a steep rise in patients with mental illness since the coronavirus outbreak.

Indeed, the lockdown has had a massive impact on our lifestyle. We are staying indoors with limited resources and some of us are now suffering from anxiety, panic attacks and even depression.

I am someone who suffers from anxiety, and to counter that, I usually like to go out a lot, see my friends, go to the restaurant etc... But in the end, now I, just like you, don’t have any other choice than to stay at home.

This is why I started to practice yoga again; to use our treadmill and to do some daily workout exercises.

Yes, sport can help you face the hard reality of not being able to step outside of your house or apartment (for the unlucky ones like me).

The first reason is that when you are exercising, your body release endorphins. These hormones interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain. Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body, similar to that of morphine.

This is why you feel relaxed after a good workout.

In addition to this, we usually make progresses really fast, and getting results is always a good way to feel proud of ourselves and more confident.

Indeed, setting goals will help you go threw this hard time, as you will follow a daily routine to achieve them.

Routines are important, as they help you being structured and organized. You don’t need to be military, but routines can support you if you feel down, or if you lack motivation on a specific day.

Therefore, isolation might be a good reason to take a new start and change your habits.

Try to always remember that this situation is temporary and that we will be out soon.

Good luck and be brave,

Camille
